Apple Bavarian Torte
This classic European dessert is baked in a springform pan. A rich combination of cream cheese, apples, and sliced almonds makes this the ideal holiday treat for up to 12 servings.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 6 apples - peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 450° F (230° C).
- Cream together the butter, sugar, vanilla, and flour to form the crust.
- Press the crust mixture evenly into the bottom of a 9-inch springform pan. Set aside.
- In a medium bowl, combine the cream cheese and sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla, then pour over the crust.
- Mix the apples with sugar and cinnamon, then layer them on top of the cheese mixture.
- Bake at 450° F for 10 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 400° F (200° C) and bake for an additional 25 minutes.
- Sprinkle sliced almonds over the top and continue baking until lightly golden. Let the torte cool before removing it from the pan.
